Core Beliefs

A cleaner sustainable environment depends on alternative energy breakthroughs and advances in industrial biotechnologies to meet the world demand for fuel, chemicals and energy.

The global energy challenge “America’s dependence on oil is one of the most serious threats that our nation has faced. It bankrolls dictators, pays for nuclear proliferation, and funds both sides of our struggle against terrorism. It puts the American people at the mercy of shift- ing gas prices, stifles innovation and sets back our ability to compete.”

President Barack Obama, January 26, 2009.
Renewable energy technologies are essential contributors to sustainable energy as they generally contribute to world energy security, reducing dependence on fossil fuel resources, and providing opportunities for mitigating greenhouse gases.[5]

Management of the global atmosphere now involves assessment of all aspects of the carbon cycle to identify opportunities to address human-induced climate change and this has become a major focus of scientific research because of the potential catastrophic effects on biodiversity and human communities (see Energy below).

The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 mandates that nearly 9 billion gallons of biofuels were to be used in 2008, and that up to 36 billion gallons of fuel should be produced by 2022. The global biofuels market is also expected to grow from approximately 13 billion gallons in 2007 (this represents less than 2% of the transportation fuel demand) to more than 50 billion gallons in 2020. SGI believes that clean and renewable fuels derived biologically using our proprietary science are a key solution for the global energy challenges.
