Managing Director, Draper Fisher Jurvetson
Mr. Jurvetson is a Managing Director of Draper Fisher Jurvetson, a leading venture capital firm with affiliate offices around the world. He was the founding VC investor in Hotmail (MSFT), Interwoven(IWOV), Kana (KANA), and NeoPhotonics (NPTN). He also led the firm’s investments in other companies that were then acquired for $12 billion in aggregate. Current Board positions in addition to his role with GlycosBio include SpaceX, Synthetic Genomics, and Tesla Motors (TSLA).
Previously, Mr. Jurvetson was an R&D Engineer at Hewlett-Packard, where seven of his communications chip designs were fabricated. His prior technical experience also includes programming, materials science research (TEM atomic imaging of GaAs), and computer design at HP’s PC Division, the Center for Materials Research, and Mostek. Mr. Jurvetson has also worked in product marketing at Apple and NeXT Software. As a Consultant with Bain & Company, Mr. Jurvetson developed executive marketing, sales, engineering and business strategies for a wide range of companies in the software, networking and semiconductor industries.
At Stanford University, Mr. Jurvetson finished his BSEE in 2.5 years and graduated #1 in his class as the Henry Ford Scholar while also earning an MS in Electrical Engineering. In addition, he received his MBA from the Stanford Business School, where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar. Mr. Jurvetson also serves on the Advisory Boards of SRI International, STVP, and the Stanford Engineering Venture Fund and is Co-Chair of the NanoBusiness Alliance.
Dan Watkins, Ph.D
Managing Director, DFJ Mercury
Dr. Watkins is a Managing Director of DFJ Mercury, a venture capital firm focused on seed and early-stage investments in the sciences and software sectors in the mid-continent region. He is actively investing in both energy related physical sciences startups and life sciences startups. Prior to co-founding DFJ Mercury, Dr. Watkins was the founder and Managing Partner of A3 Associates, a venture firm focused on seed-stage investments in university and research center-based technology transfer opportunities.
Dr. Watkins received his BS in Materials Science and Engineering from Rice University and his MS and Ph.D in Materials Science and Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. He currently serves on the advisory boards of BioHouston, the Rice Alliance for Technology & Entrepreneurship, and Northwestern University’s Innovation and New Ventures Office.
Chief Operating Officer and Director, PLxPharma
Mr. Mossman is a senior executive with over 38 years of P&L responsibility for multinational private and public companies engaged in the development, manufacture and marketing of both small and large molecule products. His management and investment experience spans successful leadership of high growth companies, startups and turnarounds of failing businesses. During his career Mr. Mossman has been involved in the synthesis, development or manufacture of several hundred chemical compounds in the various stages of their life cycle ranging from laboratory and preclinical to commercial.
Currently, Mr. Mossman is Chief Operating Officer (COO) and a Director of PLx Pharma, an emerging pharmaceutical company. In addition to his Board of Director’s position with GlycosBio, Mr. Mossman is also on the Board of DXO, an oilfield drilling fluid additives company and Redline Industries, a metal fabricating company for the energy industry where he serves as Chairman.
Prior to his role at PLxPharma, Mr. Mossman’s next most recent assignments included the role of Executive Vice President and COO of Cambrex Corporation with responsibility for global operations of this leading supplier of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients including generics, Biotech and Pharma development services, and drug delivery systems and diagnostic products. Also, previous to Cambrex, Mr. Mossman was CEO and Vice Chairman of Dixie Chemical Company, Inc. a recognized top tier manufacturer of high quality fine and specialty chemicals for diverse applications including pharmaceuticals, paper sizing, industrial coatings, printing inks and electrical oils.
In addition to his professional career, Mr. Mossman has been involved in many professional, charitable and church organizations as well as city government including Chairman of the Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturers Association (SOCMA ), executive for the Committee of American Institute for Pollution Prevention, Board of Directors for American Chemical Council and Texas Chemical Council, Councilman and Mayor Pro Tem for city of Nassau Bay, and Elder for Webster Presbyterian Church.
Richard C. Cilento, Jr.
Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Cilento has more than 20 years of leadership and technical experience with energy, biotechnology and information technology companies. Prior to his role as CEO of GlycosBio, Mr. Cilento was the Founder, President and CEO of FuelQuest, Inc. (acquired by Saracen Energy), a provider of on-demand supply chain management and tax automation software and services for suppliers, distributors, fuel buyers and traders in Global Downstream Energy. Mr. Cilento began his career at NASA’s Johnson Space Center where he was a space shuttle flight controller. He and his flight control team had responsibility for developing the flight plans that led space shuttle missions.
In 2006, Mr. Cilento received national business honors, winning the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Energy Technology. He is an active member in the business community advising a number of small companies in Texas and serves as a Venture Advisor for DFJ Mercury, a seed and early-stage venture capital firm.
Mr. Cilento holds a BS in Aeronautical and Astronomical Engineering from the University of Illinois and an MBA from the University of Houston.
Walter S. Burnap
President and Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Burnap has more than 30 years of executive-level management and ownership experience in diversified industries including telecommunications, energy, distribution and financial services. Prior to his role as President and CFO of GlycosBio, Mr. Burnap held several executive and C-Level positions throughout his career. Most recently, he was an Investment Banker providing business and financial advisory services for a diversified client base ranging from real estate development, manufacturing and personnel staffing to multiple restaurant operation businesses. Mr. Burnap was also a Principal with Tuscany Advisors, L.C. where he worked closely with early stage clients in developing and executing business plans and strategies.
Mr. Burnap is an active member of the Houston Angel Network having served as its President and Board Chairman.
Mr. Burnap graduated from Southern Methodist University with a BBA in economics/finance.
